YORKSHIRE FIRM LADYROYD GARAGE HAS RECENTLY TAKEN DELIVERY A VOLVO FL 4X2 WITH POWERTEC BODYWORK FOR THE RECOVERY OF LARGER VEHICLES.

Bradford-based recovery vehicle operator Ladyroyd Garage has taken delivery of its first Volvo truck – a new FL 4×2 rigid with rear air suspension.

Supplied by Crossroads Truck and Bus, it has been brought in to help the firm transport the larger vehicles the firm recovers, and features Powertec bodywork with a factory-fitted power take-off (PTO).

The 16-tonne GVW FL joins a 12-strong fleet of 7.5-tonners at the 60 year-old operator, which specialises in low approach recovery work as well as acting as agent for several breakdown clubs. It is expected to cover up to 50,000km a year.

The FL is powered by Volvo’s D8K engine, which is rated at 280hp and produces up to 1,050 Nm of torque, via the Swedish truck maker’s six-speed I-Sync automated transmission.

The new FL features a four-door, six-seat crew cab, and has been specified for maximum comfort, with an air-suspended and heated driver’s seat with lumbar support, as well as air conditioning, cruise control and a heated windscreen.

Ladyroyd Garage owner David Thornes said: “Before committing to Volvo, we looked closely at rival marques, but none of them could really compete. We knew that with Volvo we’d be buying a premium brand truck we could count on – it was certainly a step up for the fleet. We had also heard very good things about the FL in terms of reliability and payload.

“It’s proving to be an outstanding vehicle and it certainly hasn’t disappointed. The team at Crossroads Truck and Bus have really impressed us too, offering invaluable support and advice from the moment of our first enquiry.

“The specification of the Volvo perfectly met the requirements of the business, and the feedback we’ve had from the drivers has been fantastic,” added Thornes. “They have been particularly impressed with the ease of access into the crew cab. The steps offer excellent grip in all weathers, making it a lot easier for passengers who might not be used to getting into a truck.

“The FL’s practicality and good all-round visibility have made it a firm favourite among our team,” he concluded.
